Race Profile
Name: Arion
Physical Description: A humanoid creature with wings. They may be feathered, bat-like, or otherwise. They are similar to angels in appearance but are not celestial beings. What they look like from hatching is how they remain for the rest of their lives…Only difference is their hair grows white over time depending on their age.
This species has a good side and a bad…The "good" are known as brytes and the "bad" are known as murks.
Brytes tend to be good natured and are very charming. Most are quite persuasive and like getting their way. Others are intellectual and playful. Their wings range from feathered to bat-like in a range of vibrant colors.
Murks tend to have scaly skin and bat-like wings or black feathered wings (rare for murks)…they are also bad-tempered. The brytes do not have scaly skin…That's the significant difference between the two.
Natural Abilities: They are not beings born with magical powers unless they are taught the ways of a sorcerer. And even then…they’re magical abilities are incredibly limited. Not being a magical race…it is harder for them to control their powers or gain any leverage in it.
They all have the natural ability to fly…as they have wings and are built for such activities.
Strengths: They are agile and light on their feet. Arions have great eye sight as they are accustomed to looking at the world from high above: “bird’s eye view” if you will. Though it is not as keen as the Gryphondyle race. They gain and retain information faster than any other race. Many become historians or teachers because of this fact.
Weaknesses: As a whole…the race of Arion tend to think themselves know-it-alls as they gain and retain information at an incredible speed. This tends to get them into tifs-and-tats with other races of Aersralm. Another weakness is that they are not adept in magic.
Habitat: The brytes live in the land of Arionette…The bryte Arions reside in this beautiful land. Waterfalls and lush foliage paint the scenery. Gorgeous ruins of ancient architecture can still be found.
Murks of the Arion race reside in the cavernous wasteland of Syn. Stones and bones of dragons litter the land of Syn. It is said every dragon comes here to die once their life-source is spent. It is said an arion maiden fell in love with a dragon and they mated. This legend is one form of explanation of how the murks came into being.
Lifespan: They are not born, but hatched from large eggs. They never age…what they look like from hatching is how they remain for the rest of their lives...Only difference is their hair grows white over time depending on their age. They are born knowing…and gain knowledge rather quickly.
Their life span is an average of 500 years but are known to live twice that in some cases.
Languages: They speak the common tongue of Aersralm.
Religion: They are not religious beings by trade…though it depends on the individual really. Some take human gods…while others find solace in other races’ gods.
Societal Structure: The race is split into two factions, the brytes…and the murks. The brytes reside in the land of Arionette while the murks find their homes in the wasteland of Syn where dragon bones litter the landscape.
Though they live apart…they all are under the rule of the Arion Empress. The Arion Empress is always of the bryte and will always take a mate from the murk faction. It is the arion way to keep a bond between the two factions…though they normally do not get along and tend to bicker and fight among each other. It is the Empress’ job as well as her mates to keep things smooth between the two factions. If the Arion Empress does not wish to sleep with her murk husband however…it is his duty to obey her wishes and sleep in his quarters that reside on the very opposite side of where the Empress keeps her quarters. So the Empress is on one side of the ancient castle while her murk counterpart is on the very opposite side.
As a society they love books and devour the knowledge with lightening speed. Many become historians…others become teachers or philosophers.
